Should I put drain acids or drain cleaners down my drains?
Under no circumstances should you ever use acidic drain cleaners in your home plumbing systems. The acids are toxic and can cause damage to your pipes and fixtures, not to mention that they can cause chemical burns on you, your children, or your pets! The fumes from these drain cleaners can also be dangerous to people with allergies or other sensitivities. Theseacids can also linger in your drain system and hurt the plumber who comes to your home to work on the drain system. If you think you need some sort of drain treatment for routine drain clogs we recommend using Bio One drain bacteria. Our drain bacteria is certified by the EPA to be safe and is a living bacteria culture which will eat away at the grease and sludge inside of your home plumbing system.
How long does a drainage system last before it needs to be re-piped?
Your home’s drainage systems should be converted over to PVC if they are not already. galvanized and cast iron drain lines rust out and will collect a lot of grease build up inside of the pipes. Since PVC is smooth it does not collect as much debris and since it is plastic it will not rust out on you. ABS is a black plastic pipe that looks a lot like PVC, but it should also be replaced because it tends to warp over time which leads to bellies and peaks in the system.
How much does it cost to re-pipe my home’s drain lines?
A lot of the cost of drain line re-piping will depend on access and the number of bathrooms that you have. On the high end for Sioux Falls we tend to see new drain line installations at about $12,000 and on the low end at about $4,000. On average, most client end up paying about $5,000 to $6,000.
